I remembered making these easy ornaments as a kid and wished I could eat them because A: they look like gingerbread cookies and B: they smell SOOO yummy! I decided to try them as an adult to attach to holiday packages and give away as cheap and cheerful gifts to anyone and everyone during this season of giving!
you could easily jazz these ornaments up with a bit of glitter or other decorations, but I think they look classic and minimal just they way they are! you can also use them as gift tags by attaching a name card or sticker on the back!
what you'll need:
- 1 cup cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon ground cloves
- 1 tablespoon ground nutmeg
- 3/4 cup applesauce
- 3 tablespoons white glue
- mixing bowl
- spatula or large spoon
- measuring spoons/cup
- cookie cutters of your choosing
- rolling pin
- string, ribbon or twine
- parchment or waxed paper
- drinking straw
1 // in the mixing bowl combine all ingredients and mix until all ingredients are well incorporated and form a sticky ball.
2 // roll out 1/4" in. thick and cut out your shapes! work quickly because if the dough gets too dry it will start cracking and be very hard to work with.
4 // place onto parchment or waxed paper and use the straw to cut out a small hole for looping the string onto the ornaments when they are dry.
5 // it is very important to let the ornaments COMPLETELY dry out, for about 2-3 days before stringing them onto the ribbon or twine! they are fragile and may break! once dry, loop on the string and place on the tree!
let us know if you have tried this project or plan to! 14 days til CHRISTMAS!
